Willow Leather products are all handmade using vegetable-tanned leather and recently new vegan plant leather made from 100% organic Nopal cactus (Prickly Pear). Each product is personally designed and made in Hertfordshire (UK) by me.

I use both Vegetable-tanned leather & the new vegan cactus leather by Desserto, both of which I simply love working with for their quality, beauty and environmental credentials!  My product range is focussed on beautifully clean-looking and practical pieces which will be timeless. Each piece is sourced, designed and handmade by yours truly with care, love and attention.

The colour of the  vegetable tanned leather  improves over time, with a rich patina developing through everyday use. Vegetable tanning uses natural ingredients such as tree bark, fruits and leaves in the tanning (dying) process, and is considered the most environmentally friendly approach to dying leather. The leather hides I use are a by-product of the food industry which in turn addresses the problem of waste which in turn helps to lower the carbon footprint of my range.
The new plant leather range offers a 100% organic and vegan alternative highly sustainable and environmentally friendly.  There are other plant leather options but I was drawn to cactus for many reasons; It’s one of the most durable plant leathers as it will last a lot longer than any PU faux leather and it offers great environmental credentials HOME (desserto.com.mx)

Having studied Fashion Design at Northampton University and worked in industry, I came away feeling disheartened about fast fashion and shifted to teaching textiles at secondary school.  Setting up Willow Leather Designs has allowed me to indulge my passion for design and textiles. I have really enjoyed perfecting my leather skills over time, with love, through my detailed design and handcrafting process. I put a lot of thought and care in to every piece I make and when I’m not working, I am busy raising my two fabulous young children at home in Hertfordshire, before they start school.
